Wireless to Trusted Network Policy
1.0 Purpose
This Policy prohibits access to Appalachian State University trusted networks via unsecured wireless communication mechanisms. Only WPA and WPA2 encrypted wireless systems are approved for official University business and student connectivity to Appalachian State University's network backbone and only VPN clients are allowed to connect from untrusted to trusted networks.
2.0 Scope
This Policy covers all untrusted wireless data communication devices (e.g., personal computers, cellular phones, PDAs, etc.) connected to any of Appalachian State University's internal networks. This includes any form of wireless communication device capable of transmitting packet data. Wireless devices and/or networks without any connectivity to Appalachian State University’s networks do not fall under the purview of this Policy.
3.0 Policy
To comply with this Policy, wireless implementations connecting to Appalachian State University's trusted networks must maintain VPN client connectivity. See Virtual Private Network (VPN) Policy.
4.0 Enforcement
Anyone found to have violated this Policy may have their network access privileges temporarily or permanently revoked.
